Continuity

On the standing of receipts beyond this office.

The following describes the standing practice of the office concerning the persistence of issued receipts, the handling of operational interruption, and the conditional provisions made in the matter of founder availability. The document is a statement of practice; it is not a service-level agreement and creates no contractual undertaking.

Standing of issued receipts

Every receipt issued by Orphograph is verifiable against the Bitcoin chain independently of this office. The OpenTimestamps protocol is public; the standalone verifier is published at github.com/Orphograph/Orphograph under the MIT licence; the calendars relied upon (a.pool, b.pool, alice.btc.calendar, finney.calendar.eternitywall, btc.calendar.catallaxy) are operated by independent parties.

A receipt issued today continues to verify in 2050 without reference to the original issuer. The receipt is the instrument; this office is the registrar, not the trust anchor.

In the event of operational interruption

If orphograph.com becomes unreachable for reasons exceeding routine maintenance, the following remain in force:

  • Existing receipts remain valid and verifiable via any OpenTimestamps client.
  • Customers retain copies of their receipts within the account vault and may have already exported the vault as a ZIP archive.
  • The standalone verifier may be saved offline as a single HTML document; see /verify-js.html.

No action by this office is required for a previously-issued receipt to retain its standing.

Permanent discontinuation

Should the office cease to operate permanently, a notice to that effect will be posted at /status.html and registered on the chain as the final instrument of this office.

The code base remains MIT-licensed; any party may continue operation of an equivalent office without permission from this one. Existing customer data on the production volume is retained for a period of at least ninety days from the date of notice, during which interval vaults may still be exported by their respective account-holders.

Founder-availability provisions

A trusted technical executor has been nominated and, upon documented incapacitation of the founder, would be authorised to publish the permanent-discontinuation notice and to facilitate vault exports for existing account-holders during the ninety-day window described above.

The identity of the executor is held privately by counsel and by the legal-of-record correspondence address of this office, reachable at [email protected]. The provision is conditional in nature and does not constitute an assurance that any particular action will be taken within any particular interval.

What this document is not

This document is not a service-level agreement. The office does not contract to remain available for any particular period and offers no warranty as to uptime, response, or continuity of operations.

The architecture of the receipt, together with the MIT licence under which the verifier is published, jointly ensure that the absence of the office does not compromise the standing of any receipt previously issued. The document is a statement of standing practice, not a binding commitment.

Verification of this document

This page is itself anchored at the time of issuance. The receipt for the current revision is listed in the footer of the latest revision, and may be verified by the same procedure as any other receipt issued by this office.

Correspondence regarding the matters described herein may be directed to [email protected]. Revisions to this document are themselves anchored; the receipt for the latest revision is listed in the footer.
